Dr. Manmohan Singh, India’s 13th Prime Minister, passed away on December 26, 2024, at the age of 92. Renowned as the architect of India’s economic liberalization, his contributions have left an indelible mark on the nation’s trajectory.

Manmohan Singh, born on 26 September 1932, was an Indian politician , economist and also served as a prime minister of India from 2004-2014. He also served as the RBI governor from 1982-1985. He was member of the Indian National congress and was the first Sikh prime minister of India . On 26 December 2024 , he was admitted to AIIMS hospital emergency department because of his deteriorating health. He died that day at the age of 92 and India lost a visionary with a humble heart .

“As our Prime Minister, he made extensive efforts to improve people’s lives,” Modi wrote on X on Thursday.

Priyanka Gandhi, the daughter of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi and a Congress party member, said that Singh was “genuinely egalitarian, wise, strong-willed and courageous until the end”.

Her brother Rahul, who leads Congress, said he had “lost a mentor and guide”.
