Question: How did the enemy of the Tsar become friend with the Tsar  in Leo Tolstoy’s “ Three Questions”?

Answer: The Tsar was engaged in digging at the Hermit place when a seriously injured bearded man came running toward him. The Tsar bandaged his wound and gave him fresh water to drink. He also took him to hermit hut and laid him on the bed.  Next morning, the man told him that he was one of his enemies whose properties had been confiscated by the Tsar and he was determined to take revenge .The wounded man asked the Tsar to forgive him. He further added that he hid in the wood to kill him but the guard recognized him and wounded him. He promised the Tsar that he would serve him as most faithful slave for life. And thus the Tsar made peace with his enemy.

Answer: The three questions were: What was the right time to begin everything.Who were the right people to listen to, and whom to avoid? What was the most important thing to do?Hermit answered the question.In Answer to the first Question, the hermit said that there is only one time that is important and that time is ‘Now’.  Hermit said that only at present ,one has power to act.  For the second question, the Hermit answered that the most important person was the person he was with at particular moment. This is because no one knows what would happen in the future and whether we will meet anyone else. In response to third question, the Hermit replied that one should tp good for the person one is with.

Who is the speaker and who is the person spoken to? Why did the man come running?   How was the man received by them?

Answer:Hermit is the speaker here. He spoke these words to the Tsar. The man who was bleeding from a terrible stomach wound came running toward the Tsar. The man told the Tsar that he was waiting in the bush to ambush him. When the Tsar did not return,he  left his  hiding-place and  came upon his bodyguard who recognised  him and wounded him. The Tsar bandaged his wound and gave him fresh water to drink. He also took him to hermit hut and laid him on the bed.
